From the 8th of June – 31st of August, you can get an insight into what makes us feel at home in the city. For the third time, Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) hosts its Photo exhibition “Fang din by” (Capture your City), and this time the theme is all about home. It is free to visit the exhibition at Bryggepladsen. The exhibition Works together with DAC’s “Welcome Home” opening exhibition at its new location in BLOX at the Copenhagen Harbour Front. Sankt Hans Aften (Saint John’s Eve) is celebrated every summer on 23rd of June. The evening is a combined celebration of Saint John the Baptist, who was supposedly born on 24th og June, and a celebration of the shortest night of the tear. The evening is traditionally celebrated with bonfires, speeches and singing of the Danish midsummer song “Vi elsker vort land”, which was written by Danish poet Holger Drachmann in 1885. The top of the bonfire is sometimes adorned by a straw witch. The story says, that when the witch is burnt, she flies of to Bloksbjerg in Germany, which is known to be the location of a witch gathering. It is possible to celebrate Sankt Hans at several Places in Copenhagen. For example in Tivoli or in Frederiksberg Have.
Copenhagen’s metal festival, Copenhell, unleashes hell again this year on Refshaleøen with lots of bands, beer and a heavy programme of heavy-metal. Copenhell is an outdoor festival that acclaims the metal and rock genre and offers dedicated metal-fans a serious festival in Copenhagen. Again in 2018, Copenhell will take place just a few miles from the centre og Copenhagen on the Island Refshaleøen. The festival area will be done out in rough and brutal style, consonant with the industriel surroundings.
