The Ship is the title of Nikolaj Kunsthal’s new venture for both children and adults. It is created by visual artist Eske Kath and musician Nanna Fabricius Øland aka Oh Land. The Ship takes place in the nave of a church Building and stimulates all the senses. Fx the church organ has also been included in an interactive sound composition. Experience 10 younger international prominent contemporary artists, giving their interpretation of life’s relationships, where the physical and digital are still melting closer and closer together. Via Video, installation, painting and sculpture nine scenarios depict the relationship between the physical an the digital, where there is no clear distinction between where one stops up and where the other begins. The respected British artist Gillian Wearing is engrossed by people and their relations. In a new exhibition she shows both touching and unpleasant stories of families and solidarities. In her works Gillian Wearing (b.1963) gives perfectly ordinary people a voice – documenting private narratives, examining family constructs and exploring the boundaries between the private and the public. She often incorporates herself or members of her family directly in her art, raising questions about how relationships with other people help share our identity. Get more information here »
Selandia – the game exchange – the world’s first major ocean-going diesel-engine ship. One fourth the fuel consumption of the steamships, vleaner and with no soot nor big chimneys. M/S Selandia was a sensation at all the ports where she docked, at a time when coal and steam was the dominant drivning force in the shipping world. She was the first big ship of her kind, ans she was given a warm and interested welcome in all ports on her maiden voyage from Copenhagen to Bangkok – she was even visited by the then Marine Minister, Winston Churchill. In this exhibition “The first trip with Selandia” we meet the people behind the ship, and we look at the influence she had on the relationship between Denmark and Thailand.

Denmark’s new multi arena will be transformed into a swimmingpool, when the European Swimming Championship kicks off in Copenhagen.

Very often there are small festivals during the weekends. Visit also the small food marked in the meetpacking district, where you at weekends can find various kinds of street food.
At Jazzhouse in Niels Hemmingsensgade by the church, Helligaandskirken, you can experience a wealth of concerts with the focus on jazz, but also other genres are represented.
